In the past four decades of string theory research, the O(16) × O(16) heterotic string in 10d has
stood alone as the only non-supersymmetric, tachyon-free string model with one scalar. We introduce new non-supersymmetric and tachyon-free string theories that serve as the lower-dimensional
counterparts to the O(16) × O(16) string in 4d, 6d, and 8d, each featuring only one neutral scalar.
