The Arqus European University Alliance brings together the universities of Bergen, Granada, Graz, Leipzig, Lyon, Minho, Padua, Vilnius and Wroclaw, nine longstanding comprehensive research universities with deep regional engagement in medium-sized cities. The University of Padova and the University of Bergen got funds from Arqus to promote the mobility at the University of Bergen of 6 Bachelor students from the first and second year and to host 6 students from Bergen. The duration of the school is 5 days, during which the students will learn basic concepts of high-energy astrophysics and statistical analysis with emphasis on hands-on exercises. https://www.arqus-alliance.eu/index.php/news/arqus-opens-twinning-call-2021-22
The school will be held in person at the Department of Physics and Technology (IFT) from the 5th to the 9th of September 2022 with theory and hands-on sessions. Topic: Introduction to the theory and instrumentation of high-energy astrophysics. Introduction to the statistical methods applied in astrophysics. Introduction to multi-messenger analysis. Hands-on exercises. Quiz and final tests.
The participation at the school is free. Food, transportation and other expenses will not be covered.
Students from the University of Bergen willing to participate at the school must be bachelor students of the physics program. The application will be open until the position is filled (max. 6 students) . If interested, please send an email to giacomo.damico@uib.no
