Description
Field-theoretical models, such as active model B or dynamical density functional theory, are highly useful for modeling the collective dynamics of active matter and for statistical physics in general. Such field theories can be constructed using phenomenological considerations, but can also be derived directly from the microscopic equations of motion for individual active particles using a series of approximations. In this talk, I will go through the microscopic derivation of active model B+, one of the most widely used active field theories, and explain which approximations are required to obtain this model and its generalizations.
