Description

PRIN Joint Seminar - "Supersymmetry breaking with fields, strings and branes"

Finding a metastable de Sitter (dS) vacuum from a compactification of string theory is an incredibly difficult open problem that has led to the conjecture that this might not even be possible. This, along with observations about the nature of lower dimensional effective theories that can be completed in string theory, has led to a series of conjectures — together known as the swampland program. Motivated by one of the swampland conjectures that non-supersymmetric AdS spaces are unstable, we have constructed a model of four dimensional dS cosmology as living on the surface of a bubble that mediates the non-perturbative decay of a five dimensional non-supersymmetric AdS space. In this talk, I will present the model and explore its various aspects — including how four dimensional gravity, matter and radiation arise. I will highlight how it differs from the well known Randall-Sundrum construction of brane-localized gravity as well as discuss ongoing work.

This talk will mainly be based on the following articles arXiv: 1807.01570, 1907.04268, 2001.07433, 2009.01597.
