Description
Recent years have seen significant progress in the microscopic understanding of supersymmetric black hole entropy. Despite these successes, the nature of the underlying microstates remains elusive. The fortuity program offers a framework for investigating this subject by distinguishing between monotone and fortuitous BPS states, with the latter conjectured to account for the dominant contribution to black hole entropy. In this talk, I will introduce the main ideas of this program and discuss its realization in ABJM theory. I will conclude by presenting a recent puzzle concerning the dependence of BPS black hole entropy on the Chern–Simons level, together with a proposed resolution.
