In this workshop, Dr Alemani will describe the process of reconstructing a physics laboratory course, which she accomplished at the University of Potsdam (Germany). Its goals are (i) offering students authentic experiences, (ii) fostering the acquisition of scientific skills, and (iii) developing expert-like attitudes. Participants will practice setting skill-based learning goals and developing activities for reaching those goals.
Micol Alemani has been a solid-state physicist at the University of California Berkeley and Stanford University. Since 2013, she has focused on physics education. She has worked on the transformation of introductory laboratory courses at the University of Potsdam, receiving fellowships and teaching awards.
