 A review of some classical themes of nuclear spectroscopy will be given with a twist:

 The effective interaction and the “ab initio” campaigns; the origin of nuclear

  (Quadrupole) collectivity and the emergence of Shape coexistence; the meaning

  of the idea of shape in the laboratory frame; the vulnerability of the magic closures and the Islands of Inversion.
