ABSTRACT:
Several new recent and deep low-frequency radio observations have discovered unprecedently wide diffuse synchrotron emission at the extreme periphery of clusters of galaxies, and in the filaments connected to them. The presence of a significant pool of relativistic particles and magnetic fields in such rarefied plasmas prooves the existence of efficient particle acceleration procceses, likely promoted by shock waves and turbulent motions excited by the continuous mass growth of cosmic structures.
I will show the latest results on the numerical modelling of these giant radio structures, which represent a spectacular crossroad of plasma physics, galaxy formation modelling and cosmology.
