INFN70 - An Italian successful story

Abstract:

The National Institute of Nuclear Physics was established on  August 1951, with a decree of the CNR president, in order to coordinate the theoretical and experimental research in nuclear physics in the centers of Milan, Padua, Rome and Turin. They have been 70 years of great progress in understanding the fundamental laws of nature and the evolution of the Universe. Some stages of this successful history will be recalled, in particular the birth of the Frascati Laboratory, the development of the astroparticle physics and the Gran Sasso Laboratory.

INFN has maintained throughout these transformative years a leading role at national and international level thanks to some characteristics that will be briefly analyzed.
