DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Yannis K. Semertzidis (Brookhaven National Laborator
y)\n\nThe search for axion dark matter has entered a mature andrapidly evo
lving phase\, driven by significant advances in high-Qresonant systems\, q
uantum-limited amplification\, and system integration.I will begin by revi
ewing the progress achieved at IBS-CAPP\, where abroad program of haloscop
e experiments has demonstrated world-leadingsensitivity in the GHz range t
hrough the development of superconductingcavities\, ultra-low-noise detect
ion chains\, and large-scale cryogenicinfrastructure. I will then briefly
discuss the ongoing efforts withinDMAG to extend this reach toward higher
frequencies and new detectionparadigms.A central challenge in the field re
mains the efficient exploration ofwide frequency ranges while maintaining
sensitivity at or near thequantum limit. In this context\, I will introduc
e the CARAMEL approach(Cosmic Axions Revealed via Amplified Modulation of
 the Ellipticity of aLaser\, PRD 113\, 032012\, 2026)\, a probing-based det
ection scheme thatdeparts from conventional power-detection methods. Inste
ad of relying onpassive signal extraction\, CARAMEL employs an active\, ph
 ase-sensitiveprobing field\, enabling a heterodyne-like measurement that e
nhancessensitivity and enables rapid scanning.I will discuss how this meth
od can bridge the gap between currenthaloscope techniques and future singl
e-photon detection strategies\,offering a practical intermediate path with
significant gains in scanspeed and robustness against technical noise. Pa
rticular emphasis willbe placed on how existing experimental infrastructur
es—such as those atPadova—can leverage their expertise in precision me
asurements andlow-noise detection to play a leading role in this next phas
e of axionsearches. The talk will conclude with an outlook on the achievabl
e sensitivity andthe potential for extending axion searches across a broad
frequencyrange\, from sub-GHz to tens of GHz\, using a combination of res
 onantenhancement and quantum-limited probing.\n\nhttps://indico.dfa.unipd.
