Description
Adaptive Optics (AO) is a key technology for modern astronomy, but testing new concepts on-sky is often difficult due to limited access to large telescopes. This seminar introduces EKARUS, a new experimental platform under development for the 1.82m Copernico Telescope at Asiago. Building on the legacy of the PAPYRUS project, EKARUS is designed as a flexible, modular optical bench. Its primary goal is to offer the research community a versatile testbed for validating new optical technologies, exploring advanced control strategies (including AI), and training the next generation of instrumentalists. We will present the current preliminary design and the development roadmap , detailing our R&D plans and briefly touching upon the platform's future potential for collaborative research and scientific capabilities.
