Three highly interrelated results have emerged from the 3 first years of operations of JWST. (1) A very efficient formation of bright galaxies at z>10. (2) A wealth of AGN candidates at 4<z<11. (3) A very efficient metal and dust production at z>5. I will discuss some results about these topics, including the determination of reliable star formation histories with a unique approach facilitated by JWST allowing to probe the epoch when the cosmic star formation started, the characterization of the sources known as little red dots which can be identified with early stages of significant galaxy and supermassive black hole growth, and the selection of galaxy candidates at the earliest epochs (z=10-25).
